An old demand from the health sector is taking shape and may be announced soon. It is Open Health, an open health data platform, which will allow the creation of a single medical record for the patient and greater agility in portability between health plans. The initiative is from the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS).
Involving a thorough analysis, as the shared data will be extremely sensitive, as it concerns the patient’s health, the platform will have two pillars: consumer assistance, with a focus on sharing health data to create the single record or electronic health record; and financial, whose objective is to stimulate competition in the health insurance market by improving the portability format.
Open Health can greatly assist, for example, those suffering from chronic diseases, as health professionals will have at hand the entire history of the patient’s clinical evolution. Through the platform, it will also be possible to monitor the rate of patients who adequately follow the prescribed treatment, as well as to follow the overall adherence rate or segmented by type of disease, age or other relevant factors. In this way, the doctor will have a broader view of the types of care adopted by other professionals.
The convergence of patient data, regardless of whether they have accessed the public or private service, will be a major gain for the healthcare ecosystem. Today, a lot of information is lost or hard to find because there is no single platform that concentrates this history.
Open Health will also represent a major evolution in access to health-related data, research, technologies, and practices. The entire sector is looking forward to the launch of the platform, which has not yet been announced by the Ministry of Health.
